Picric acid (PA, 2,4,6-trinitrophenol) is a polynitrated aromatic acid. It is strongly acidic in nature.
Since it readily dissolves in water, it can easily pollute the environment on exposure.
Application
It is one of the most acidic phenols. Like other strongly nitrated organic compounds, picric acid is an explosive, which is its primary use. It has also been used as medicine (antiseptic, burn treatments) and as a dye.
Dosage
The subcutaneous lethal dose in frogs Is 200 mg/kg of picric .
