Millon's reagent is prepared by dissolving mercuric nitrate in nitric acid, and then adding water to dilute it.
The reagent is used in Millon reaction test wherein few drops of the reagent are added to the
test solution, and then heated gently to boiling
Application
Millon's reagent is an analytical reagent used to detect the presence of soluble proteins. A few drops of the reagent are added to the test solution, which is then heated gently. A reddish-brown coloration or precipitate indicates the presence of tyrosine residue which occur in nearly all proteins.
Dosage
MILLONS REAGENT The lethal dose for the tuberculous g. pig was 10 mg. for one precipitate.
