Calcium hydroxide can be used as linings, for indirect and direct pulp cupping, root dressing, root canal sealant, apical closure.
Food-grade calcium hydroxide is generally safe. However, if you work with industrial-grade calcium hydroxide, ingesting it can result in calcium hydroxide poisoning. This can lead to severe injury or death.
Application
It has many names including hydrated lime, caustic lime, builders' lime, slack lime, cal, and pickling lime. Calcium hydroxide is used in many applications, including food preparation, where it has been identified as E number E526. Limewater is the common name for a saturated solution of calcium hydroxide.
Dosage
Currently calcium hydroxide is often used as an intra-canal medication during root canal treatment. It has a pH of approximately 12.5, and it has antimicrobial activity, tissue-dissolving ability, inhibits tooth resorption and induces repair by hard tissue formation.
