Calcium acetate is used to control phosphate levels to keep them from getting too high in people with kidney failure. Calcium acetate may also be used for purposes not listed in this medication guide.
Application
Calcium acetate is used to control high blood levels of phosphorus in people with kidney disease who are on dialysis . Calcium acetate is in a class of medications called phosphate binders.
Dosage
Calcium acetate/calcium carbonate phosphate binders, taken to control serum phosphate levels, may result in high levels of elemental calcium intake. This may lead to complications related to calcium balance.
